Coffee is a fascinating and beloved beverage enjoyed by millions of people around the world. Here are some amazing facts about coffee!

  1. Discovery of Coffee: Legend has it that coffee was discovered by an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi, who noticed that his goats became more energetic after eating the berries from a certain tree.
He tried the berries himself and experienced a similar boost in energy, leading to the discovery of coffee.

  2. Coffee Species: There are over 100 species of coffee, but the two most widely cultivated and consumed species are Arabica (Coffea arabica) and Robusta (Coffea canephora).

  3. World's Second Most Traded Commodity: Coffee is the world's second most traded commodity after crude oil. It plays a significant role in the global economy.

  4. Coffee Belt: Coffee is primarily grown in a region known as the "Coffee Belt," which spans the equator between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
This belt includes countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, and Vietnam, among others.

  5. Caffeine Content: Coffee is known for its caffeine content. A typical 8-ounce (240 ml) cup of brewed coffee contains around 95 milligrams of caffeine, although this can vary depending on the type of coffee bean and brewing method.  For those who are more health conscious, Good For You Coffee Club offers low caffeine, and decaf swiss water process coffee!

  6. Coffee Varieties: There are numerous coffee varieties and blends, each with its own unique flavor profile. Some popular varieties include Colombian, Ethiopian, Kenyan, and Sumatran coffee.

  7. Espresso: Espresso is a concentrated coffee beverage made by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans. It's the base for many popular coffee drinks like cappuccinos, lattes, and Americanos.

  9. Decaffeination: Coffee can be decaffeinated through various methods. Most decaf coffee purchased in super markets use a chemical process to decafinate the coffee.  Good For You Coffee Club does not use chemicals, but instead uses the Swiss Water Process, where coffee beans are soaked in water to remove caffeine while preserving flavor.   Although more costly, it is much healthier alternative for decafinating coffee.

  10. Coffee Production: Brazil is the world's largest producer of coffee, followed by Vietnam and Colombia. These countries play a significant role in meeting global demand.

These amazing facts highlight the diverse and intriguing world of coffee, which extends far beyond the simple act of brewing a cup in the morning!
