FAQs - About Coffee

  • High-Quality Coffee Beans:
Healthy coffee often starts with the use of high-quality, fair-trade organic coffee beans. These beans are typically grown without adding chemicals, synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, which can reduce the risk of chemical residue in your coffee.

    No Additives or Fillers:
Good For You Coffee doesn’t use any additives or fillers in its coffee.
Many commercial coffee products have additional caffeine added. This increases the addictiveness of the product, which influences consumers to purchase the product more frequently.   Many also use less expensive grain to reduce the amount of actual coffee grounds in the product.  Fillers dilute the flavor of the beans which results in a less than ideal cup of coffee.

    Roasting Process:
The roasting process can significantly impact the flavor and potentially the health properties of coffee.  Good For You Coffee uses various roasting techniques that aim to preserve antioxidants and minimize the formation of harmful compounds.

    Packaging and Storage:
Most store bought coffee can be a year or two old before it reaches the store shelves for sale.  Good For You Coffee Club roasts and packages its coffee as it’s ordered, guaranteeing our members the freshest coffee possible.

The packaging and storage of coffee also affects its freshness and flavor.
Good For You Coffee Club pays extra attention to packaging to ensure the product remains fresh and retains its quality for a longer time.  The bags are designed specifically for storing coffee, and come with a one way valve that allows gasses out, but keeps freshness locked in.

    Shade Grown:
Good For You Coffee Club offers Shade-grown coffee. There are several benefits to shade grown coffee, both for the environment and for the quality of the coffee itself.

    • Reduced need for chemicals
    • Enhanced coffee quality
    • Environmental conservation
    • Sustainability
    • Climate Resilience
    • Water Conservation
    • Aesthetic appeal
    • Support for local communities

    Low Acidity:

Many people find that lower acidity in coffee is easier on their stomach and teeth. Good For You Coffee Club offers coffee with lower acidity levels.

    Digestibility:
Good For You Coffee is easier to digest, reducing the likelihood of stomach discomfort or acid reflux.

It's important to note that the term "healthy" can be somewhat subjective, and what one person considers healthy may differ from another.  Therefore, it's always a good idea to research and evaluate specific products and their claims, read customer reviews, and consult with a healthcare provider if you have specific health concerns related to coffee consumption. Ultimately, the best coffee for you depends on your personal preferences and specific health condition.

  • Unless otherwise noted, each bag contains 12 ounces of coffee whether it's ground, or whole bean.

12 ounces will make between 60-75 cups of coffee - depending on how strong you make your coffee.

  • Using a coffee scoop (about 1/2 Tablespoon) per 8 ounces.

Or, about 5 to 6 level tablespoons for a full pot of coffee (10-12 cups).

The general rule is...for a more stronger flavor, use alittle more.
For lighter less flavor, use a little less.

We encourage our members to experiment with their first bag to see how they like it best!

  • The best way to store our coffee to maintain it's freshness is in an airtight container that is NOT clear.

Keep it in a cool, dry place away from light, heat and moisture.

Unlike most coffee purchased in the supermarket, Good For You Coffee is fresh and does not contain preservatives.
Therefore, good storage is very important.
Our ground coffee and beans can last up to 6 months in the pantry.

Our resealable bags with a gas release valve are specifically designed for keeping your coffee fresh.

Do not store coffee in the refrigerator, as it will absorb odors that are present inside of it.

  • Our coffee isn't vacuum sealed.
A vaccum seal is only needed when buying coffee from a super market, where the coffee has been sitting for many months.

Because we roast your coffee upon order, you're receiving the freshed coffee possible.
Vaccum sealing is not necessary. Our bags contain a one way valve that locks the freshness in, but allows the coffee to de-gas while minimizing oxidative degradation!

  • We do not use a chemical process. Good For You Coffee Club uses a process called the swiss water method (SWP).

SWP is a non-solvent method that uses only water for decaffeinating unroasted coffee beans.

  • The cost of brewing a cup of coffee using Kcups is more than double the cost of using ground or whole bean coffee. Kcups also create more waste.

We do not offer our coffee in Kcups because we want to provide our members with the best quality product, at the best value possible, with the least amount of waste.

With this in mind, we invite and encourage our members to order our Drip coffee and use it with reusable Kcup filters.

Reusable Kcup filters are available from Amazon and other major retailers.

  • Yes. Good For You Coffee is gluten free.

  • Shade grown coffee means planting the coffee beans under a sun filtering canopy. This improves the quality of the coffee bean a number of different ways.
First, the trees provide shelter for the coffee plants from the sun.
The shade allows the beans to mature slower, which allows them to become more nutrient rich, denser, and harder than coffee beans that are not shade grown.

The final coffee product becomes much more nutrient rich and with much better flavor.

The trees that shade the coffee offer other benefits than just protection from the sun.

The fallen leaves from the trees provide a naturally re-occurring source of nutrients for the coffee plants that are growing below them.

When the leaves decompose they become part of the soil which helps the coffee plants to grow.

It also helps to improve the nutrient density of the coffee plants. The fallen leaves also provide a layer of protection for the coffee plants from weed growth that act as a layer of mulch that makes it more difficult for new seeds from other plants to grow.

This allows more nutrients in the soil for the coffee plant to use making the coffee beans more nutrient dense when they are fully developed.
